1. Why is it important to screen for drug use?

Saliva drug screening enables rapid detection of psychoactive substances in the body, even when their effects are no longer apparent. It is an essential tool for safeguarding individual health, preventing risky behaviors (e.g., driving, working in sensitive environments), and supporting individuals in need. Within a medical or professional context, screening aids in establishing an accurate diagnosis and guiding appropriate care. A hierarchical superior may administer a saliva test, provided it is justified by the employee's job functions.

The Toda Drugdiag® Saliva Innovation was designed to make saliva screening simpler, faster, and more reliable.

Its detachable strip improves hygiene, sample collection takes 1 minute with results in less than 5 minutes, and its saturation indicator ensures a sufficient saliva sample for reliable results. This is an ideal choice for professionals requiring efficiency in the field.

  • Adhere to pre-collection instructions

For a saliva test, avoid eating, drinking, smoking, or chewing gum 10 to 15 minutes before the test to prevent skewed results.

  • Select a clean and appropriate environment

Wash hands and avoid touching the part of the test that comes into contact with saliva. Devices with a detachable strip minimize contamination risks.

  • Respect the confidentiality and dignity of the tested individual

Even if less intrusive than a urine test, sample collection must be conducted with full confidentiality and a clear explanation of the procedure to reduce stress and encourage cooperation.

  • Ensure traceability and identification

Identify each test (name, date, time, batch number) to guarantee complete traceability, particularly in professional, medical, or legal settings.

  • Anticipate potential interferences

Certain medications or health conditions (e.g., dry mouth, treatments) can alter results. Verify the individual's health status and recent substance consumption before the test.
